Ines Coronel Barreras was born in Canelas, Durango, Mexico on 21 January 1968. He also goes by El Uno (The One) and El Suegro (The-Father-in-Law). Coronel was a cattle rancher in the rural community of La Angostura, Canelas, Durango. According to people from the local area, he cultivated marijuana and opium poppies on the farm.
In January 2013, the United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned him for his involvement with the Sinaloa Cartel’s illicit activities and drug trafficking. The Mexican Federal Police arrested him in April 2013 alongside his son Ines Omar Coronel Aispuro and three others. There were rumors that Coronel broke out of prison in May 2014 with several other inmates, but the Mexican government disputed the story as fake.
On 28 April 2017, a Sonora federal judge found Coronel guilty of marijuana trafficking and possessing military-exclusive firearms. The verdict was ten years in prison.

Born Emma Modesta Coronel Aispuro on 2 July 1989, she is a former Coffee and Guava Festival, beauty queen. she grew up in the remote village of La Angostura, Durango with her parents Estela and Coronel Barreras. She met Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman during a party she hosted, and they reportedly agreed to marry that day.
Emma gave birth to twin girls in the summer of 2011 at Antelope Valley Hospital. Guzma’s name was left out of the girls’ birth certificate because he was a wanted criminal. She attended the courtroom almost every day of her husband’s trial in 2016. Her husband was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2019 for several criminal charges related to his leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel.
In February 2021, Emma was arrested for her involvement with her husband’s drug distribution deals and money laundering. She pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three years in November 2021.
The fate of her children remains unsure as she serves her sentence.
